Unions and public sector workers are disappointed that Premier Jeremy Rockliff did not come to Thursday’s meeting with an offer.
With the industrial action taken in recent weeks, the Premier should have been across the challenges being felt by public sector workers.
Yet again, the government has failed to get the basics right by listening to concerns and take action.
We know that cost of living is a major issue, with recent reports showing that it is not just society’s most vulnerable people who are feeling the pinch.
Offering a 2.5 per cent pay rise means a real wage cut for our valued public sector workforce, as rents and mortgages increase, power bills rise and groceries become more expensive.
But, this is not just about money. This is about workload, retention rates and vacancies.
Premier Rockliff needs to come back next week with an offer that addresses their concerns and alleviates some of the stress the workforce is feeling.
