The Australian National Rowing Championships, the country’s largest national rowing competition, is coming back to Tasmania in March 2021 for the first time since 2009, putting Lake Barrington in the rowing spotlight.
Through a Tasmanian Liberal majority Government $1.3 million investment, Lake Barrington will also play host to the Australian Masters Rowing Championships this year and in 2028, which will attract rowers from all over the country to Tasmania.
These three events are expected to attract 10,000 visitors and inject $14 million into our economy.
With the Tasmanian State Club Championships kicking off this weekend involving 450 of the best local athletes from 13 clubs and 8 schools racing in 114 events, the future of rowing in Tasmania is looking strong.
This long-term commitment to rowing in our state will see significant upgrades to Lake Barrington’s current facilities, secured by Rowing Australia and means we will continue to have better facilities moving forward for local rowers to utilise.
It will enhance the ten domestic rowing events annually staged at Lake Barrington and put Tasmania in a strong position to attract even more events.
This investment will both boost rowing at a local level and give Tasmanians the opportunity to see world-class athletes in their home state.
