Private investment Creating Jobs for Territorians

Leading hospitality company Delaware North have today officially opened their new national call centre here in the Top End.

Creating permanent local jobs is the Territory Labor Government’s number one priority. Attracting private investment and diversifying the Territory economy does just that.

Establishing the call centre has led to the immediate creation of six new Territory jobs – a number that is expected to increase as Delaware North continues to expand its investment in the Territory. Delaware North currently employs more than 500 people at Mindil Beach Casino Resort, making it one of the largest private-sector employers in Darwin.

With all their calls going to previous overseas operators, today’s opening is a milestone for the NT and Delaware North.

Since taking ownership of the Mindil Beach Casino Resort, Delaware North has commenced a two-year renovation into their facility – injecting more than $20 million into their premises while also buying local and supporting Territory businesses.

So far $8 million worth of local works has been carried out – supporting local businesses and local jobs.

Many Territory sectors are currently getting a bite out of the Delaware North spend from painters, contractors and IT professionals.

The remaining $12 million will be spent throughout 2020 when audio visual works, infrastructure upgrades and further equipment upgrades will be made, resulting in more Territory jobs being supported.

Quotes attributed to Gary Brown, Delaware North Managing Director, Australia & New Zealand:

“Since becoming stewards of the fantastic Mindil Beach Casino Resort nearly one year ago, we’ve relished the opportunity to grow our presence and improve amenities for our guests to enjoy.”

“The opening of the call centre is an important step for Delaware North as it continues to create jobs and invest in the leisure and tourism sector across Australia and New Zealand.

“Our new call centre is a significant step for the business as it means we have the ability to directly oversee and manage reservations for our guests at our iconic properties across Australia, such as Kings Canyon Resort here in the NT, El Questro Resort in the Kimberley and Lizard Island Resort on the Great Barrier Reef.

“Last year saw Delaware North invest $8 million to perform important upgrades at Mindil Beach Casino Resort, and we intend to build on this with $12 million earmarked for new furniture, air-conditioning, painting and upgrades to audio-visual, IT and other essential equipment. This will help to cement Mindil Beach Casino Resort as the premier tourism and leisure destination in the Northern Territory and help create jobs and drive spending in the local economy.”
