Last week we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the NSW Government; a commitment to progress a new bilateral agreement.
This is a step forward in streamlining environment approvals.
The MOU with NSW follows the signing of a similar MOU with the WA Government earlier this year.
Bilateral agreements allow state and federal governments to assess and approve projects together. They can also reduce the need for separate approval processes.
The agreements will allow for:
- faster decisions
- less duplicated work
- stronger environmental protections.
The agreements will meet the requirements of Australia’s reformed environment law.
They are expected to be finalised by the end of the year.
