Property Council welcomes Development WA

September 24, 2019

Property Council WA Executive Director Sandra Brewer has congratulated Lands Minister Ben Wyatt MLA on the birth of Development WA, the merged LandCorp and Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority.

“We’re delighted the State Government, particularly the Lands Minister Ben Wyatt has acknowledged the enormous contribution the property industry makes to creating great places as well as generating jobs and economic activity,” Ms Brewer said.

“The property industry wants to work with the State Government to achieve greater economic activity for WA.”

In a ceremony to mark the official launch at the East Perth Power Station on Monday night, Mr Wyatt told a 300-plus audience of property industry, government and local government leaders Development WA’s mission is to design and develop connected communities, a prosperous industry and create resilient regions across the length and breadth of Western Australia.

“The mission that Frank (Marra, Development WA’s inaugural chief executive) and the Development WA team are taking on is critically important to the continuing economic and social development of our State,” Mr Wyatt said.

“Urban infill projects will form a significant part of Development WA’s future work as the delivery of Metronet opens new possibilities across Perth.”

Mr Wyatt said the State Government was committed to transforming parcels of land in prime locations to make the best use of existing transport hubs, schools and hospitals.

“It is important to acknowledge that government cannot deliver this on its own,” Mr Wyatt said. “It certainly cannot. Private sector developers play a critical role.”

Ms Brewer said it was gratifying to have the important role the industry plays in creating communities and well-designed, lively urban precincts recognised.
