Property Council welcomes Six Cities Discussion Paper

The Property Council of Australia has welcomed the Greater Cities Commission (GCC) Six Cities Discussion Paper.

The Six Cities comprise the Lower Hunter and Greater Newcastle City, Central Coast City, Illawarra-Shoalhaven City, Western Parkland City, Central River City and Eastern Harbour City.

Property Council’s NSW Deputy Executive Director Lauren Conceicao said the Property Council looks forward to working with the GCC in order to execute the Six Cities vision.

“It is great to see a continued focus on housing supply, diversity and affordability, which are all challenging issues for our cities,” Ms Conceicao said.

“We also strongly support the growth strategies and a targeted emphasis on delivering productivity in the regions to help support solutions that will unlock jobs and economic growth.

“Pleasingly the Commission has flagged that they’ve heard industry’s calls for faster delivery on the ground, particularly relating to housing and local infrastructure, with measurable and timebound targets.

“It is positive to see integrated thinking on using our transport and logistics links, including our three international airports and three deep water ports as well as a focus on the seven universities that sit within this plan.”

Ms Conceicao said like all Discussion Papers, the devil would be in the detail.

“We look forward to engaging with Government about the finer grain elements of the Strategy as well as the development and implementation of City Plans,” she said.

“If we get it right, this will provide an important platform from which to take our regions to a global level in the future.”
