Public consultation is now open on proposed changes to make strata living simpler through amendments to the Strata Titles Amendment Bill 2026.
Minister for Parks and Heritage, Nick Duigan, said the Tasmanian Government is committed to increasing housing supply and choice for Tasmanians through well-designed medium and higher-density development and more efficient use of land.
“As more Tasmanians choose to live in units, apartments and other strata developments, it is important the legislative framework supporting these communities remains contemporary, practical and fit for purpose,” Minister Duigan said.
“Following a comprehensive review and extensive consultation, amendments to Tasmania’s strata legislation are now being proposed, with the draft Strata Titles Amendment Bill 2026 released for public consultation.
“The proposed amendments aim to make strata living simpler, fairer and more transparent, giving owners and residents greater confidence that their strata communities are well managed.
“The reforms recognise a one-size-fits-all approach is no longer suitable, with modern strata developments varying significantly in size, design, use and complexity.
“The proposed changes will deliver greater flexibility in the planning and development of strata schemes, improve access to information, and provide clearer governance and management arrangements.
“Clearer rules around common property, by-laws and management responsibilities will make it easier for owners, residents and managers to understand their rights and obligations.
“We are getting on with the job of building an even better Tasmania as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.”
The draft Bill is available for public and stakeholder feedback from Friday 11 September to Sunday 25 October.
