The Australian Government is investing $8.9 million to protect the Port Arthur Historic Site in Tasmania.
This funding will help conserve one of Australia’s most important World Heritage places.
The works will:
- repair and maintain the famous Penitentiary building
- improve visitor facilities
- keep the site safe for future generations.
The investment includes:
- $6.7 million for building repairs and infrastructure upgrades
- $2.2 million for better visitor experiences.
These projects are part of the Local Environmental Projects Program. The program helps communities care for nature and protect our heritage.
