Providing Community Covid Support: Bayside

Council is supplying increased support to the community during the COVID-19 lockdown support and Library staff have been redeployed to help with the extra workload.

“Council is continuing to support and help our residents through these times,” Mayor Joe Awada said.

“We are doing all we can to help ensure we emerge from lockdown in the best possible shape when we finally get to reopen and live life as normal again.”

Since the current lockdown over 1,500 telephone calls and welfare checks have been made to residents.

Council youth workers have also remained in telephone contact with young people associated with Council’s various youth programs.

Council staff have also implemented community and welfare support measures to ensure emergency relief providers and vulnerable community members have sufficient masks and gloves, food relief, and mental health support.

Councils support team has sourced and distributed:

  • 1,000 hand sanitiser pumps
  • 768 packets of sanitising wipes
  • 20,000 masks
  • 200 food hampers to diverse households

Council’s community engagement programs have also continued in an online format.

The popular online Lunch and Learn programs, like Talking Bayside Tuesdays, provide an excellent forum in which to engage our community and are likely to become a permanent part of Council’s engagement process.

An average of 40+ young people are attending the online Youth Sessions each week while the Lunch and Learn program attracts over 100 people each week. These numbers are continuing to grow.

Council remains in regular contact with local community organisations, providing support and help, as they continue to much needed services to their members.
