Police have declared an emergency situation in Stanthorpe tonight in relation to an ongoing bushfire threat.
The declaration of an emergency situation under the Public Safety Preservation Act was made at 9:36pm.
The declared zone is bounded by Cannon Creek Road, Bamberry Road, Donnelly Castle Road, New England Highway, Dalcouth Road, Sugarloaf Road and Hale Haven Drive.
Police are urging people not to enter the declared zone and to avoid any travel unless directed to by emergency services.
An evacuation centre is open at Stanthorpe Fitness Centre, however driving now would be extremely dangerous.
Officers remain on the scene.
