Public Accounts Committee reports on public sector performance and accountability

Parliament’s Joint Committee of Public Accounts and Audithas tabled three reportson a range of Commonwealth public sector performance and accountability matters.

JCPAA Report 477 sets out the Committee’s recommendations as a result of its inquiry into Commonwealth financial statements, based on Auditor-General’s Report No. 24 (2017-18), and compliance with foreign investment obligations for residential real estate, based on Auditor-General’s Report No. 48.

JCPAA Report 478 sets out the Committee’s recommendations as a result of its inquiry into the issuing of a certificate under section 37 of the Auditor-General Act 1997, based on Auditor-General’s Report No. 6 (2016-17).

JCPAA Report 479sets out the Committee’s recommendations as a result of its inquiry into personnel security, based on Auditor-General’s Report No. 38 (2017-18), and domestic passenger screening, based on Auditor-General’s Report No. 43 (2017-18).

Committee Chair Senator Dean Smith said the Committee had made several important recommendations across these reports to continue to improve the performance of Commonwealth agencies and their accountability to the Parliament and the Australian public.

The Committee examines all reports of the Auditor-General tabled in the Parliament and can inquire into any items, matters or circumstances connected with these reports.

The JCPAA is Parliament’s joint public administration committee. It scrutinises the governance, performance and accountability of Commonwealth agencies, and has the power to inquire into all expenditure of Commonwealth money.
