Geelong Duped By Fast Rail Hoax

Liberal Party Victoria

Labor’s axing of the Geelong fast rail project proves the election promise was nothing more than a cruel hoax upon the people of Geelong by the Labor Party.

At the time of its launch, then Premier Daniel Andrews and then Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Jacinta Allan declared the 250 km/h trains were to be the ‘fastest in Australia’ and would slash travel times.

Less than 18 months later the project has been scrapped without any substantial work having commenced.

Shadow Minister for Public Transport, Matthew Guy, said: “There was never any intention to build this project, it was a cruel hoax from the start and proves how arrogant and out of touch the Labor government is.

“Premier Allan will push ahead with a more than $200 billion rail line for Melbourne but Geelong commuters clearly are worth nothing but false promises to win votes.

“Labor promised a new convention centre for Geelong, a new children’s hospital and a fast rail service, none have materialised and none will.

“If Labor had kept to its budgets for Melbourne projects like level crossing removals or the Metro tunnel, the Geelong fast rail could have been built.

“As debt hits a record high, Labor has run out ofmoney and the people of Geelong are paying the price.”
