Public consultation on digital signage

The public will be able to have its say on proposed new rules around advertising devices, including digital signage.

The proposed rules aim to protect the character and amenity of the region, while providing options for businesses and organisations to promote their offerings.

Digital signage will be restricted on residential streets; areas with sensitive environments; and identified character precincts, such as Babinda, Gordonvale, Palm Cove, Edge Hill, Freshwater, Stratford and beachfront areas.

Under the proposed amendments, Council’s Local laws will regulate all advertising devices and the Planning scheme will regulate the installation of advertising devices on a Place of significance (heritage place).

The changes will define which types of advertising devices are regulated, which types of advertising devices do and do not require a permit, which types are prohibited, and specific locations where advertising devices and/or digital signs are prohibited.

Public feedback on the proposed amendments is open from 11 July 2019 and closes 8 August 2019.
