QUARTER FOUR REPORT – Liberal Government continuing to deliver for Tasmanians

The Hodgman Liberal Government is continuing to deliver our long term plan for Tasmania, and it is delivering results.

There is always a lot more to do, and we are prepared to be held to account on our progress.

Today we release the Quarter Four update on our Building Your Future – First Year Agenda*.

This completes our First Year Agenda, with work now underway on 286 initiatives contained in our second year plan.

The Government’s work plan is firmly focused on growing the economy, to create more job opportunities, investing more into health, education and essential services, keeping the cost of living down, building the infrastructure our growing State needs, and protecting the Tasmanian way of life.

In our first year following the 2018 State election, the Government has:

  • Legislated to cap power prices at CPI for a three-year period;
  • Put in place new incentives for businesses to employ apprentices and trainees;
  • Released a $13.9 billion 10-year infrastructure pipeline;
  • Legislated a more competitive payroll tax for businesses;
  • Released a Business Growth Strategy;
  • Continued action to reduce red tape with annual audit reports published;
  • Commenced the recruitment of 250 new teachers;
  • Started the State’s first integrated medical and search helicopter service;
  • Legislated new local leadership at Tasmania’s hospitals;
  • Updated the RHH clinical master plan, released it, and accepted all recommendations;
  • Opened a new 22-bed ward at the Repatriation Hospital;
  • Started building the new 36-bed Ward 4K at the LGH;
  • Completed the new $12.1 million St Helens Hospital;
  • Delivered a new $125m Affordable Housing Action Plan;
  • Recruitment for 15 new Park Rangers and Field Officers undertaken;
  • Increased core funding for all Neighbourhood Houses;
  • Frozen trout fishing licences at 2017-18 prices for four years;
  • Established a Ticket to Play voucher system to boost participation in children’s sport;
  • Released the first round of the $4 million mineral exploration drilling grants program;
  • Legislated tougher laws on family violence offenders and organised crime gangs;
  • Commenced works on the new $70 million Southern Remand Centre;
  • Removed police from court security duties in the North of the State;
  • Delivered a new Brand Tasmania statutory authority, and Tasmania’s first Trade Strategy;
  • Delivered Court-ordered home detention
  • Rolled out 265 body-worn cameras for police, which will increase to 500 by the end of 2019;
  • Established a new Event Attraction Fund;
  • Took over Macquarie and Davey Streets from the Hobart City Council;
  • Provided upgrades for schools, national parks, health facilities, road, rail and community infrastructure, right across the State;
  • Commenced construction of the new Orange Bellied Parrot Breeding facility at Five Mile Beach; and
  • Much more.

The Liberal Government is getting on with the job of taking Tasmania to the next level.
