Two charities will get more funding to continue their increasingly important work during the COVID-19 pandemic, as two new cases maintain this week’s encouragingly low results.
There are now 282 active cases with 738 recoveries and six deaths for a total of 1026.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Lifeline will get $3.5 million for counselling services.
“Lifeline has seen an unprecedented number of calls during COVID-19, and they are receiving around 24,000 calls a week,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
Legacy, whose fundraising in the lead-up to Anzac Day has been severely impacted, will receive a $1 million grant.
Also today:
- The Premier said a detailed proposal was needed from the NRL about resuming the Rugby League season before it could be considered.
“I call on the NRL to submit that detailed plan and I will immediately forward it to the Chief Health Officer for her to consider and report back to me,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
- Small business operators, legal practitioners and others will benefit from measures passed through Parliament to deal with the impact of COVID-19
The legislation incudes:
o A Small Business Commissioner – a single point of contact for leasing disputes
o Provision for video conferencing for legal transactions that normally require face to face meetings
