- The Crisafulli Government’s 2026-27 State Budget has allocated $22 million in funding over the next four years to subsidise water costs for Cloncurry.
- The subsidy will ease water price increases for Cloncurry Shire Council residents.
- The initiative is part of the Crisafulli Government’s commitment to combat cost-of-living pressures and make water more affordable for regional Queenslanders.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering for North West Queensland by investing $22 million over four years to help keep the cost of water bills down for the Cloncurry community.
This funding will continue to subsidise the cost of water supplied to council through the North West Queensland Water Pipeline and the Cloncurry Pipeline, with savings passed onto the regional community through reduced supply charges.
The former Labor Government had no plan to drive down regional water costs, forcing regional communities like Cloncurry to shoulder rising costs and growing pressure on essential services.
Cloncurry’s remote location and reliance on extensive water infrastructure drives up supply costs. This subsidy will help minimise water supply costs for Cloncurry residents and provide financial relief to households.
This is just another way the Crisafulli Government is delivering for Queensland by providing practical cost-of-living relief and ensuring regional communities have access to affordable, reliable water.
Minister for Local Government and Water Ann Leahy said this funding is a practical measure to ease cost-of-living pressures and prevent bill shock for Cloncurry residents.
“For far too long, regional communities like Cloncurry have faced higher water costs due to distance and infrastructure demands,” Minister Leahy said.
“Our Government understands the importance of affordable water, and this investment helps ease those pressures and support more affordable, reliable services.”
“This investment will help ensure savings are passed on to Cloncurry households, easing cost-of-living pressures and preventing bill shock while supporting more stable, affordable essential services for the region.”
Mayor of Cloncurry Shire Council Greg Campbell said the funding would provide important support for the local community.
“This funding will help ease pressure on water costs and prevent bill shock for residents and businesses, which is particularly important in a remote community like Cloncurry,” Mayor Campbell said.
“Residents and businesses in Cloncurry rely on affordable and reliable essential services, and this support will make a real difference in helping to keep water costs manageable for our community.”
