The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has hosted the 18th annual Multifaith and Multicultural Dinner, bringing together more than 230 community, cultural, faith and government leaders.
Hosted by Acting Commissioner Brett Pointing APM at the Brisbane Technology Park Conference and Exhibition Centre, the event recognised 2026 Multicultural Queensland Month and this year’s theme, ‘Bringing People Together’.
This year’s dinner, themed ‘Together: Celebrating Many Communities and Trusted Relationships’, was the largest and most diverse in the event’s history, reflecting QPS’s ongoing commitment to building strong, respectful and trusted relationships with Queensland’s multicultural and multifaith communities.
The evening celebrated the important partnerships between QPS, community leaders and government agencies that help create a safer, more inclusive and resilient Queensland.
Guests enjoyed performances by the Baha’i community and the QPS Indian Dance Group, and heard a keynote address from Police Multicultural Advisory Group member Dr Adam Lo OAM, who spoke about Australia’s shared values, shared responsibilities and unity in diversity.
Acting Commissioner Brett Pointing APM said the annual dinner provided an important opportunity to strengthen relationships and acknowledge the valuable contribution of Queensland’s diverse communities.
“This event celebrates the many cultures, faiths and communities that enrich Queensland and help make our state more connected,” Acting Commissioner Pointing said.
“It also highlights the importance of trust and meaningful connections between police and the community in helping to create a safer, more inclusive and resilient Queensland.”
The dinner also highlighted the QPS commitment to building a workforce that better reflects the community it serves, supported by initiatives including the Police Liaison Officer Program and Multicultural Recruit Preparation Program.
“We are committed to building our cultural capability and ensuring the QPS continues to respond respectfully and effectively to every community,” Acting Commissioner Pointing said.
First held in 2008, the QPS Multifaith and Multicultural Dinner has become an important annual event on the Commissioner’s calendar, providing a valuable opportunity to celebrate diversity and strengthen partnerships across the state.
The evening closed with a reaffirmation of QPS’s commitment to equality, fairness and responsive policing for all communities.
QPS remains dedicated to ensuring all Queenslanders feel safe, respected and included, with these values continuing to sit at the heart of the Service’s work across the state.
