Queensland Road Safety Week: Fatigue

This week is Queensland Road Safety Week (August 21 to 25).

This is a week where we remind Queenslanders to be safe on our roads.

Fatigue is one of the top five factors contributing to road crashes.

It doesn’t matter whether you are an experience driver or a P-plater, fatigue can creep up on you at any time of the day and can have serious consequences.

When you’re over-tired, the last thing you want to be doing is driving a vehicle or riding a motorcycle.

In fact, a driver who has been awake for 17 hours has a driving ability similar to a driver with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.05 per cent.

There are three ways to avoid driving tired:

  1. Prepare before getting behind the wheel
  2. Recognise the warning signs of fatigue
  3. Take active steps when fatigue hits.

You wouldn’t drink drive, don’t drive tired.
