The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has announced a rare tender opportunity for Australian storage and warehousing businesses for a contract for the preservation and logistical management of hundreds of heritage maritime artefacts.
These artefacts, ranging from original lighthouse lenses to ship models and lighthouse blueprints, are integral to Australia’s maritime history.
Under the stewardship of AMSA, which manages a network of about 480 aids to navigation around Australia, ensuring the safety of seafarers and protecting the country’s coastline for many years.
AMSA’s Executive Director Response, Mark Morrow, emphasised the importance of specialised management for heritage maritime artefacts, ensuring that Australia’s rich maritime history is preserved for current and future generations.
“It’s the first time such opportunity presented itself. These artefacts are integral to Australia’s maritime history, and their ongoing preservation is crucial for safeguarding our maritime heritage for future generations.”
“They physically embody the passage of time and technological development in our country’s rich maritime history, and for communities around Australia – particularly those of our former lighthouse keepers – they are also important keepsakes for memory and storytelling purposes,” Mr Morrow said.
The tender, available on AusTender (ATM ID 24AMSA002), invites businesses to provide services including warehousing and storage, logistical services for specialised freight, stocktaking, and remediation.
