As part of an ongoing campaign intended to deter drink driving, SA Police will be out in force on Saturday night (23 February).
Superintendent Bob Gray, the officer in charge of the Traffic Support Branch, said while police were flagging the Random Breath Testing operation with the community in advance, drivers should remember that every police car is effectively a random breath testing station.
“This targeted police activity as part of Operation Stop Drink/Drug Driving is just one of the ways that police remind motorists to make smart choices for the benefit of all road users,” he said.
“While alcohol related fatalities have decline over the last decade, SA Police still have concerns about the number of people risking their lives, and those of others on our roads, by driving while affected by alcohol and illicit drugs.
“While we don’t intend to provide specifics about where we will be, and when, this weekend, I simply ask the community to play their part in road safety.
“Don’t risk being caught – but more importantly don’t risk your life, or expose others to that risk.”
Superintendent Gray said there will be a deliberate RBT campaign in each District and Local Service Area across the state.
“As we have said before, the community need to STOP and THINK before they choose to drink and drive – the minimum penalty is losing their licence for six months but the maximum could be far worse, potentially paying with their life or someone else’s.”
