Public Advocate Anne Gale has been reappointed for a second five-year term following an extensive recruitment process, Attorney-General Vickie Chapman today announced.
The Public Advocate carries out a number of important roles supporting people with impaired decision making and their carers, including acting as Guardian of last resort, advocating on their behalf and providing education and an information service to our community.
“In the five years Anne Gale has been Public Advocate, she has provided great support to vulnerable individuals in our community with impaired decision making,” Attorney-General Vickie Chapman said.
“She has advocated for those under her guardianship, particularly during a time where there have been significant changes occurring in the aged care and disability sectors.
“I’m pleased to see her continue in the role for a further five years.”
Ms Gale – who has previously worked as Equal Opportunity Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Consumer and Business Affairs – was first appointed Public Advocate in December 2015.
Under the Guardianship and Administration Act, the Public Advocate is appointed to a five-year term in office.
