Recipe for disaster in Thornbury

Heidelberg police intercepted a vehicle following routine patrols in Thornbury this morning.

The red Holden Astra was travelling along St David Street when police saw the car with three people inside about 1.15am.

Police intercepted the vehicle in nearby Flinders Street and the driver, a 26-year-old Deer Park man, returned a positive preliminary breath test.

The man refused to provide identification to police and he was subsequently arrested and taken to a nearby police station where police were able to confirm his identity.

The unlicensed driver returned a positive evidentiary breath test of 0.136

He is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving, unlicensed driving and provide false details.

The two passengers, a 23-year-old from Braybrook and a 22-year-old female from no fixed address, along with the driver, were all found to be in breach of the directions issued by the Chief Health Officer and were each issued a $1652 penalty notice.

The directions by the Chief Health Officer, under the State of Emergency declared in Victoria, have been enacted to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.
