Recognising Tasmanian Carers During National Carers Week

Jeremy Rockliff, Premier

National Carers Week, from 16 to 22 October 2022, is a time for all Tasmanians to recognise and celebrate the important contributions that over 80,000 unpaid Tasmanian carers make to their families and our community.

Our Government recognises and values our Tasmanian carers and the vital work they do supporting the health and wellbeing of others in our community.

National Carers Week is also an opportunity to raise awareness about the diversity of carers and their caring roles.

Anyone can become a carer at any time during their life – as a child, a young person, an adult, in retirement or older age. And they may be carers for a few months, for several years or decades.

Our Government has a detailed strategy Supporting Tasmanian Carers: Tasmanian Carer Action Plan 2021-2024 which we released in June last year.

The Action Plan recognises the importance of Carers Week as an opportunity to reflect on carers and celebrate them for who they are as carers and as individuals.

We have delivered a key commitment to Tasmanian carers, by introducing Carer Recognition Legislation this year, and we expect to debate that Bill later in November.

Tasmanian carers deserve support and recognition for the immense good that they do in our communities and the Tasmanian Government will continue to work closely with Carers Tasmania to ensure this is provided.
