Two new representatives from the Darwin community have been appointed to the Reconciliation Advisory Committee.
The Council is proud to announce that esteemed community members, Nicole Brown and Leah Gardiner will represent their community on the Advisory Committee.
Nicole Brown is a Larrakia woman with a strong history of event management, youth work, engagement, and community service. She has founded the Indigenous Women’s Network in Darwin and is the City of Darwin Citizen of the Year in 2022. Nicole is an established champion for Reconciliation in the NT and sits on several boards including Ironbark Aboriginal Corporation, Darwin Visual Arts Association, and the Minerals Council of the NT. She was recently awarded the Volunteer of the Year at the NT NAIDOC Awards.
Leah Gardiner has experience in mentoring, training, employment and has performed in administration roles from the banking, training and not for profit sector as well as Indigenous development and employment programs. Leah is currently the Aboriginal Training Coordinator with the Aboriginal policy and community engagement, Fisheries division.
The purpose of the Reconciliation Advisory Committee is to advocate, inform and guide Council on reconciliation actions and efforts to strengthen the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples and Non Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, for the benefit of all Australians living within, working or visiting the City of Darwin.
Nicole Brown and Leah Gardiner join the Reconciliation Advisory Committee from the next meeting on July 18th.
