Transurban is marking Legacy Week (30 August – 5 September 2026) with a record $138,000 contribution to Legacy Brisbane, taking total donations generated through Legacy Way to more than $1.18 million since the tunnel opened in 2015.
The annual contribution is made possible through a unique partnership between Brisbane City Council, Transurban and motorists, with one cent from every toll paid on Legacy Way donated to Legacy Brisbane.
The funding helps Legacy Brisbane provide practical assistance, social connection and care services for the families of veterans across South-East, Fraser Burnett, Central and Western Queensland.
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the tunnel’s name was a promise Brisbane makes to veteran families every day.
“Legacy Way was named for a reason and every trip through it keeps that promise to the families of those who have served,” Cr Schrinner said. “More than 83 million journeys have now added up to over $1.18 million for Legacy Brisbane thanks to a partnership between Council, Transurban and Brisbane motorists. Behind every veteran is a family that has shared in the sacrifices of service and this Legacy Week we thank them for everything they have given.”
Transurban General Manager for Queensland Theuns Lloyd said the contribution demonstrates the ongoing impact of Legacy Way beyond its role as a major transport link.
“We’re proud to deliver a record $138,000 contribution to Legacy Brisbane this year. Every trip through the tunnel helps make a difference to veteran families across Greater Brisbane, and that’s something we’re incredibly proud to be part of. Legacy Week is an important opportunity to recognise the service and sacrifice of Australia’s veterans and acknowledge the families who stand beside them.”
Legacy Brisbane Interim Chief Executive Officer Anthony Birch said the ongoing support continues to make a meaningful difference.
“The contribution from Legacy Way helps us provide practical assistance, connection and care to veteran families across Greater Brisbane. This year’s record donation will help us continue delivering services and programs for families when they need them most. We are grateful to Transurban and the motorists who travel through Legacy Way and help make this support possible. Each trip through Legacy Way really does count.”
Since opening in 2015, more than 83 million vehicles have travelled through Legacy Way, with every journey contributing to a lasting legacy for the families of those who have served Australia.
