Recruitment drive for kindergarten parent groups

Parent groups work to support the kindergarten with a wide variety of fundraising and community building projects.

Activities include a range of social justice, sustainability and community projects. Last year the parent’s group at Bayswater Early Years Hub set up a clothing and food pantry donation point, built a small community library and raised funds for local charities. Their current goal is to help the centre educate children and families about RedCycle and the recycling of soft plastics.

As Sarah, a member of the Bayswater groups says, “Gone are the days of just holding bake sales and hassling friends to buy chocolates for fundraising. Our parent group meets once every 6-8 weeks depending on everybody’s schedules. It’s a great opportunity to catch up, meet new families and share experiences and ideas. Children are also welcome to come along and make new friends. I’d encourage any family to give it a go.”

Families are welcome to join at any time throughout the year, but roles and responsibilities are generally discussed at group’s Annual General Meeting which are conducted in late October through to November. Parent Group roles are appointed by an election.
