Red Shield Appeal flag raised in Kempsey to mark start of fundraiser

Kempsey Shire Council

For one week, the NSW state flag will be replaced by the Salvation Army’s Red Shield flag as a visible commitment to this important cause.

Kempsey Shire Council hosted a flag raising ceremony on Monday 15 May to launch the Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal.

During the ceremony, Rachel Farthing, Officer and Minister for the Kempsey Church, as well as other esteemed members from the Salvation Army, joined Mayor Leo Hauville and Council staff in raising the Red Shield Appeal flag. This act symbolises the community’s unity and solidarity in supporting the Red Shield Appeal’s vital work.

The Red Shield Appeal runs through the months of April, May and June each year. In 2023, the national Doorknock will take place on 20 and 21 May.

The Red Shield Appeal is the Salvation Army’s annual fundraising campaign to help people in need. The funds raised through the appeal support a range of programs and services, including homelessness services, food relief, and disaster relief.
