The Department of Planning and Environment has announced updates to the rules governing small scale boating infrastructure on Sydney Harbour.
The changes will better enable upgrades to small scale boating infrastructure around the Harbour, replacing outdated rules with appropriate, modern protections to ensure the facilities and infrastructure in the Harbour are up to standard.
The Department said it was removing some of the red tape around structural repairs, replacement and maintenance of small scale boating infrastructure in the Harbour.
The changes:
- Include simplifying the rules about repairing and maintaining structures such as mooring pens to encourage safer boating and better quality structures;
- Aim to encourage a higher grade of private moorings and other ageing water infrastructure, which is safer and better for the marine environment; and
- Will allow the adoption of new and emerging boat storage technologies to help reduce maintenance costs for boat owners.
