Redcliffe Paceway Set To Light Up

Minister for State Development and Infrastructure, Minister for Industrial Relations and Minister for Racing The Honourable Grace Grace
  • $6 million lights project for the Triangle
  • Works to commence in April 2024
  • Funding provided through the Racing Infrastructure Fund

The Redcliffe Peninsula Harness Racing and Sporting Club is set to shine brighter than ever with new broadcast lighting to be installed.

Funded through the Miles Government’s Racing Infrastructure Fund, the $6 million project will provide new LED lighting and electrical infrastructure in order to deliver a better broadcast quality product for night racing.

Just as importantly, it will also facilitate safer trackwork in the early hours, whilst improving animal and participant welfare through more efficient lighting uniformity across the track.

The program of works is forecast over an 11-month period, with construction set to commence this month, allowing the RHRC to maintain its racing and training operations during construction.

Racing continues to go from strength to strength under the current Labor Government, with the economic contribution of the harness racing code alone growing 52 percent, from $142 million in 2015 to $216 million in 2021-22.

Overall the racing industry is worth $2.2 billion to the Queensland economy and supports thousands of jobs.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Racing Grace Grace:

“With the existing lighting and electrical infrastructure nearing its end of life, this state-of-the-art project ensures the famous ‘Triangle’ will meet expectations of both broadcasters and spectators alike.

“Redcliffe is one of the state’s most valuable harness training and racing venues, conducting more than 40% of the industry’s 310 race meetings annually, with around 300 horses trialing or in training at the venue every week.

“This project is expected to support 20 new jobs throughout construction, contributing to an industry which already delivers more than $2.2 billion in economic contribution to Queensland each year.”
