It is now easier for people to update their sex or gender on their birth certificate.
Recent changes to the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Amendment (Sex or Gender Changes) Act 2024 (external site) mean individuals born in WA can now access a simplified process through Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (external site) to update their sex or gender marker.
Applications must include a statement from a doctor or psychologist certifying that the individual has received appropriate clinical treatment in relation to their sex or gender.
