Boating, fishing and walking enthusiasts will once again be able to enjoy Lake Gordon and Lake Judd this summer with contracts now awarded for works to rehabilitate these fire damaged areas.

Minister for Environment and Parks Roger Jaensch said the works would repair 117 kilometres of walking tracks and 119 kilometres of roads, bridges and other PWS assets that were significantly damaged during the 2018-19 summer bushfires.

“These works will ensure these much-loved areas are once again accessible for the community to enjoy, as well as industries such as tourism and beekeeping that provide an important economic stimulus for Tasmanian businesses,” Minister Jaensch said.

Member for Lyons John Tucker said the works would support Tasmanian jobs as we continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Tasmanian company MSD Constructions will complete the works on Clear Hill Road that will will include localised repairs to rutting and drainage and removal of burnt vegetation, while eight Tasmanian staff from Living Trails Australia will rebuild the Lake Judd Track.

“The works will begin in the next few weeks, with completion expected later this year.”
