Remains located by diver at Port Kembla, NSW

Police have retrieved human remains, believed to be those of a missing fisherman, after a recreational diver located him underwater this afternoon.

About 1.30pm (Saturday 7 September 2019), police were notified after a recreational diver located what he believed to be a person underwater near Red Point at Port Kembla.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District and Marine Area Command attended the location before Police Divers commenced a search.

They located the remains, which are believed to be those of a 66-year-old rock fisherman, who was reported missing after failing to return home from Port Kembla on Saturday 24 August 2019.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
