Reminder: Building surveyor obligations to council

This is a reminder of a building surveyor’s obligations to council in relation to Sections 80, 80A and 30 of the Building Act 1993.

Section 80 – Requires a Private Building Surveyor (PBS) to notify council within seven days after accepting an appointment.

Section 80A – Applies if a body corporate accepts appointment as a PBS. Where this is the case, the body corporate must notify Council of the designated building surveyor within seven days after accepting appointment.

Section 30 – Requires the relevant building surveyorto give council a copy of a building permit and any plans and other documents lodged with the application for the permit. This is required to occur within seven days after issuing any building permit.

Where the building permit is issued within seven days after accepting appointment, Sections 80, 80A and 30 can be lodged simultaneously.
