Renewed appeal for information about 2008 double murder – Caves Beach

Detectives investigating the alleged double murder of a man and woman at Lake Macquarie in 2008 have renewed their appeal for public assistance ahead of the 16th anniversary of their deaths.

The bodies of Robert Pashkuss and Stacey McMaugh – aged 50 and 41 respectively – were found inside a home at Macquarie Grove, Caves Beach, about 11.55am on Sunday 6 January 2008.

Their deaths were deemed suspicious and State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, assisted by Lake Macquarie Police District, established Strike Force Chuter to investigate the incident.

Detectives have since followed several lines of inquiry; however, no arrests or charges have been made.

The renewed appeal follows new information which suggests the incident has links to organised crime, including Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs (OMCGs) in NSW and Queensland.

Investigators have also established that Robert was seen out the front of the Caves Beach property on the afternoon of Saturday 5 January 2008 with a man, who was wearing a black leather vest. Police have been told Robert appeared to be agitated.

Detectives suspect the murders took place that evening, making Friday 5 January 2024 the 16th anniversary of the incident.

A reward of $250000, announced by the NSW Government in 2016, remains available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person/s responsible for the murders of Robert and Stacey.

Detectives are reminding any person with information about the case that it’s never too late to contact police, and their information could be the missing piece of the puzzle.
