Repair works to be completed on Point Lonsdale Foreshore sea wall

The Borough of Queenscliffe and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning will be completing urgent repair works on a section of sea wall on the Point Lonsdale Foreshore, after storm surge damage was identified during a routine inspection.

The section of wall, running for 80 metres along the Point Lonsdale Foreshore, has been impacted by a number of severe storm events in recent years. These storms create large waves which crash against the wall with a substantial amount of force, and can loosen the mortar holding the wall together or erode it completely. While the damage doesn’t pose an immediate threat to public safety, Council will be reconstructing and renewing the affected area to maintain the wall’s integrity and ensure it remains safe for public use.

Queenscliff Mayor Ross Ebbels thanked residents for their patience while the works are completed. “The safety of our community is Council’s highest priority, and I want to thank residents for their patience while we complete urgent repair works on the Point Lonsdale sea wall,” Cr Ebbels said.

Works are expected to begin in early October and progress for a number of months. Reconstruction will be completed on small segments of the sea wall at a time to minimize disruption, allowing pedestrians to continue to access the beach and foreshore. Visitors to the foreshore area are requested to obey any signage or direction from workers on site, and avoid areas closed to public access.

Renewal works are made possible thanks to funding support from the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.
