ARC Linkage Projects

Australian academics who partner with Industry through the Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Program will receive almost $84 million over six years. The ARC will fund almost $32 million dollars toward sixty-eight new projects, with 141 industry partners committing nearly $52 million to these projects.

Linkage grants enable research teams from around Australia to partner with industry, business and community organisations to drive innovation and deliver outcomes and solutions to benefit all Australians.

ARC acting Chief Executive Officer, Ms Judi Zielke PSM, said that this collaboration on quality research and development was fundamental to Government’s aim to transform industries, build communities and strengthen the Australian economy.

‘For example, one of these projects brings together Monash University, Melbourne Water Corporation and Jacobs Group Australia to allow artificial-intelligence based decision making to better manage a critical asset – sewerage.’ Ms Zielke said.

‘Another brings Griffith University researchers together with UnitingCare Queensland to identify and improve links between leadership behaviours and employee wellbeing in Australian healthcare workers.’

‘These are some of the big challenges facing Australia, which we need to collaborate to address. It’s about bringing together the scientists in our research institutions with those who can apply the outcomes of research to create meaningful outcomes that benefit the Australian community.’

The ARC’s Linkage Projects support collaborative research projects between higher education researchers and partner organisations in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. Partners must make a significant cash and/or in-kind contribution to the project.

ARC funding is awarded on a basis of a competitive process and rigorous assessment to support the highest-quality researchers and research projects across disciplines.
