Residents encouraged to complete city centre road safety survey

The City of Greater Bendigo is undertaking an online survey to gather the community’s thoughts on road safety specifically in the Bendigo city centre.

City of Greater Bendigo Engineering Manager Ian McLauchlan said the Bendigo city centre was the largest commercial precinct north of the Great Dividing Range.

“It has a regional catchment of around 300,000 people and is home to over 1,000 businesses, around 11,000 jobs and many visitors each year,” Mr McLauchlan said.

“People come to the city centre for a range of reasons. While there they shop, eat, work and attend events, so it’s important that this busy area is safe for people to move around in whether they are pedestrians, cyclists or motorists.

“In July 2018 the City introduced a 40km speed limit in the City Centre and undertook a range of road safety initiatives, including the installation of new roundabouts and other treatments to improve safety.

“We are now undertaking a survey as the next step to the initial work undertaken by the City and we want to know the community’s thoughts and observations about road safety in the city centre.

“The feedback we gather from the survey will help us identify areas for improvement and possible treatments to further improve road safety and make the area safer for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists in the future.

“The information will also be used in the development of a new Greater Bendigo Road Safety Strategy.”

The survey should only take a few minutes to complete and is available on the City’s Let Talk Greater Bendigo community engagement platform at www.letstalkgreaterbendigo.com.au/city-centre-road-safety until Monday February 21, 2022.
