Draft Asset Plan FB.jpg

Baw Baw Shire Council will begin seeking feedback on its draft Asset Plan to define how Council manages its physical and non-physical assets to ensure their longevity and best service the needs of the community.

Baw Baw Shire Council owns and operates an extensive range of assets that play a key role in providing services to the entire community. The draft Asset Plan categorises these into the following:

  • Bridges and Major Culverts
  • Buildings
  • Footpaths
  • Open Space
  • Roads – Sealed & Unsealed
  • Kerb and Channel
  • Carparks – Sealed & Unsealed
  • Stormwater

The plan details how Council intends to invest in each category of asset and provides an overview of the funding required to maintain them in line with the long-term objectives set out in the Community Vision and Council Plan.

Over the next 10 years, Council has allocated $428 million to support its asset management including maintenance, renewal, upgrades and extensions works.

“Our region is facing several obstacles with population growth, changing demographics, aging Infrastructure and the continuous rising of cost of services, and these are only set to increase. With these challenges comes the need to review our assets to make sure they continue to meet the needs of our community. It is vital for Council to invest in adequate funding towards the maintenance and delivery of our assets now and into the future.

I encourage our community to review this document and let us know how you think Council can improve its asset management”.

Quote attributable to Deputy Mayor Cr Annemarie McCabe

“The document is a detailed yet simplistic look at what Council’s currently owns and what is required to budget for to maintain these assets on behalf of our community. The draft asset plan is a reassurance that our assets, valued at millions of dollars will be suitable for many years to come.

I look forward to receiving valuable feedback from the community on this draft and eventually adopting the final document.”

Quote attributable to Cr Darren Wallace

“Strategic asset management is a long journey, and this draft asset plan is just one step in that journey. The document details how Council’s assets such as playgrounds, sporting facilities, bridges and roads are managed. Asset management is vital in extracting the lifespan of every asset and in making Council’s renewal dollar stretch even further than it currently does.

I look forward to reading the submissions we receive on this draft document as it goes out for exhibition”.
