Response to Victorian State Government Budget

The past two years have been challenging for Victorians, with young people and communities already facing barriers to good health being hit especially hard by the pandemic, mental health challenges, and continued uncertainty.

VicHealth welcomes the strong health focus of the 2022/23 Victorian State Government Budget, particularly noting the range of programs to support young people to recover and build healthier futures. A focus that is strongly shared by VicHealth and its Future Healthy campaign.

VicHealth CEO, Dr Sandro Demaio, said “it’s pleasing to see a strong commitment to creating a healthier future for our young people and communities facing greater barriers to good health.”

“The health focus of this budget reaffirms the need to create a future where everyone across the state has the opportunity to enjoy good physical and mental health, aligning to VicHealth’s vision of making healthier living a reality for more communities.”

“Good health is impacted by a range of determinants, and often they’re complex and have their own challenges. This budget further recognises the important roles that housing, food security, education and employment have in creating good health not just now, but for our future generations too.”
