RET helping job seekers in Murraylands and Riverland

Job seekers in the Murraylands and Riverland are being supported into employment under the Federal Government’s Regional Employment Trials (RET) program.

The State Government welcomes the trail program which is being rolled out in ten regions across Australia, including South Australia’s Murraylands/Riverland and Yorke/Mid North.

A private contractor is rolling out the program in the Murraylands and Riverland and will work with Reginal Development Australia to identify, develop and promote local projects to improve employment prospects for more people in the region.

The program is underpinned by a $1 million Local Employment Initiative Fund providing grants of between $7,500 and $200,000 to local employers, training providers and community organisations for employmentrelated projects.

Projects can include pre-apprenticeship placement programs, mentoring initiatives and tailored projects which prepare job seekers to be skilled and ready for employment in upcoming infrastructure projects.

Minister for Industry and Skills David Pisoni said the partnership between Federal and State Governments is vital to improve employment outcomes across the regions.

“This investment will help the Marshall Liberal Government continue delivering jobs and business opportunities for South Australians,” he said.

“Importantly, the program aligns with the State Government’s $203 million Skilling South Australia initiative to create an additional 20,000 apprenticeships and traineeships over the next four years.”

The Member for Chaffey Tim Whetstone MP said the funding initiative will help more people in the Murraylands and Riverland to improve their chances of employment.

“The program will provide opportunities for more people to live and work in the region and help to equip the Chaffey electorate’s job seekers with the skills they need for employment,” he said.

“It is crucial to regional areas such as the Riverland and Mallee to have access to adequate training, and this will assist to address some of the barriers faced by regional employers who need access to skilled workers.”

Employers in rural communities also have access to a $60 million Federal Government subsidy scheme under the Australian Apprenticeships Incentives Program (AAIP), to support new apprentices in areas such as plumbing, mechanical, electrical, painting trades and hairdressing.
