Ports Minister Alannah MacTiernan has thanked Fremantle Ports CEO Chris Leatt-Hayter for almost two decades of service to the port, including 12 as CEO.
Mr Leatt-Hayter joined Fremantle Ports in 1992 from the Department of Transport, and was appointed CEO in December 2008.
He has overseen major growth at Fremantle Inner Harbour and Kwinana Bulk Terminal, and led the organisation through a number of turbulent periods – the Global Financial Crisis, the previous Liberal Government’s unsuccessful port privatisation plan, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr Leatt-Hayter will finish in the role in January 2021, with a recruitment process now underway for a new CEO for Fremantle Ports Authority.
As stated by Ports Minister Alannah MacTiernan:
“Chris is a tireless worker with a deep sense of duty to his State, and we thank him for almost 20 years of service at Fremantle Ports Authority.
“As our largest cargo port, Fremantle Ports is critical to our State’s economy – and Chris has very ably steered the ship and helped our State to prosper.
“Over the last six months, Chris’ exemplary management of the COVID-19 pandemic at Fremantle Port – including his handling of the cruise ship crisis – helped to keep the Western Australian community safe, protected the health of port workers and kept our trading economy strong.
“We wish Chris the best for his well-deserved retirement.”
