The State Government is improving the openness and transparency of the State Commission Assessment Panel (SCAP), following a review conducted by the State Planning Commission resulting in greater accountability of the SCAP’s decision making.
“I commend the work of the State Planning Commission in undertaking this review of the SCAP, which will deliver improved transparency and accountability in our planning system,” said Minister for Planning Stephan Knoll.
“The Marshall Liberal Government wants the state’s new planning system to operate effectively and for all stakeholders in the planning process to have confidence in the decision making of the SCAP.
“The move towards open meetings will provide the media and public with greater confidence in the decisions made by SCAP, which is consistent with the Marshall Liberal Government’s commitment to greater openness and transparency.
“As a result of the review, the State Planning Commission will now progressively address the actions identified over the next six months.
“In relation to Crown development applications, action has already been undertaken, with those particular applications no longer being considered in confidence – this has occurred because the Department’s assessment reports are now made publicly available with the agenda.
“I’m confident the actions being undertaken as a result of this review will lead to a more effective planning system, and one that works in the best interests of all South Australians.”
