A motorbike rider has been charged following an investigation into a serious crash near Newcastle late last year.
About 5.35pm on Wednesday 26 November 2025, emergency services were called to the intersection of City and Brunker Road, Adamstown Heights, following reports of a multi-vehicle crash.
Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District attended and found an unregistered motorbike and five vehicles were involved in a collision.
The rider of the motorbike – a 17-year-old boy – was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.
The pillion rider – a 14-year-old boy – was treated at the scene before he was taken to the same hospital in a stable condition.
Both boys have since been discharged from hospital.
The five drivers were uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene was established and an investigation commenced by the Crash Investigation Unit.
Yesterday (Tuesday 28 July 2026), following extensive inquiries, police spoke with the rider of the motorbike – now aged 18.
He was served a court attendance notice for ten offences,
- Dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm
- Negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm)
- Negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm)
- Cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle
- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
- Driver never licensed
- Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road
- Use uninsured motor vehicle on road
- Rider without helmet ride with 1 passenger without helmet, and
- Not stop before lights at red light (not toll booth).
He is due to appear before a children’s court on Tuesday 11 August 2026.
