State Highway Patrol members have been deployed across the state for the long weekend in the fight against road trauma as part of Operation Arid.
They have been left frustrated and appalled by a number of individuals and their behaviour on our roads, endangering lives.
About 6.20pm on 8 March police responded to a report of a man driving with his feet up on the dash of his car in Longwood East.
The car was located on Glenrowan-Myrtleford Road in Laceby about 7.30pm allegedly travelling at 114km/h in a 100km/h zone.
The man admitted he did it to take a photo and was issued a $242 fine for failing to have proper control and $322 for speeding.
At 2pm on 8 March an unmarked police vehicle was overtaken on Melba Highway in Woodfield by a motorcycle travelling at 165km/h in a 100km/h zone.
Police intercepted the 56-year-old Footscray man, he had his motorcycle impounded and will be charged on summons for speeding.
At 3.30pm on 9 March police detected a car speeding in Wangaratta East, the vehicle was intercepted on Hume Freeway in Springhurst.
It is alleged the vehicle was travelling at 200km/h in a 100km/h zone with four children aged 3-year-old to 10-years-old in the car.
The 32-year-old NSW man was found to be unlicensed and returned an evidentiary breath test reading of 0.091.
The man’s vehicle was impounded and he was charged with reckless conduct endangering life, speeding and drink driving related offences.
Two hours later an 18-year-old man who had only had his licence for four days was detected travelling at 150km/h in a 110km/h zone on the Western Freeway in Hopetoun Park.
The Melton South man has had his car impounded and will be charged on summons for speeding and exceeding the passenger restriction.
This is just a few examples of the reckless behaviour being observed over the long weekend.
These intercepts form part of Operation Arid which will run from 12.01am on Friday 8 March until 11.59pm Monday 11 March, 2019.
