Road Network Audit To Deliver Important Insights

Residents might notice some eye-catching vehicles on the roads as work starts on a comprehensive audit of the City of Whittlesea’s 940km sealed road network.

Contractor Infrastructure Management Group has begun the task of assessing all the city’s road and kerb surfaces with its camera-equipped inspection vehicles.

The information gathered from the assessment over the next four weeks will be used to help Council manage its road network and improve connectivity, mobility and safety.

The inspection vehicles, which are clearly identifiable, are driven by experienced operators and travel at normal traffic speeds.

Hazard lighting and other warning devices will be in operation while the vehicles conduct laser measurement and video recording.

When following these vehicles, drivers are asked to keep a full car length behind to provide the rear cameras with a clear view of the road surface.

All cameras are focused on the road and kerb surface and no image recordings of commercial or residential, private properties or structures will be made.
