Road safety report: Phase 2 – Day 3

Police conducted over 2,000 RBTs (Random Breath Tests) with 33 drivers charged with drink driving.

Police arrested a 21-year-old Banora Point (NSW) man after the Ford Falcon he was driving hit a roundabout and then a power pole on Griffith Street in Coolangatta at 6pm. The man then fled onto the beach where he was arrested and returned a Breath Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.175 per cent.

Officers conducted 85 RDTs (Roadside Drug Tests) with 20 drivers returning a positive test.

More than 2,450 speeding motorists were fined on Queensland roads.

During Phase 2, extra police will be out in force across Queensland targeting high-risk road user behaviour including the Fatal Five: speeding, drink and drug driving, distracted driving, fatigue and failing to wear a seatbelt.

Phase 2 of the Christmas Road Safety Campaign will continue until January 3, 2018.
