Get set for a roaring good time to mark the start of the Lunar New Year with celebrations in the Gold Coast’s Chinatown.
The Southport CBD will transform to host a variety of colourful activities to mark 2024 as the Year of the Dragon on Saturday 10 February.
The Year of the Dragon represents auspiciousness and imperial power.
Share in Chinese culture with traditional lion and dragon dancers, Lotus origami making, Chinese red envelopes, and make a bid for good fortune in the year of the Dragon with the interactive wishing tree.
Other entertainment includes fan and umbrella dancing, market stalls and a fireworks finale.
The popular food safari with back with food and beverage cultural cuisines available for just $5.

Getting there: Jump on the tram to the Southport Station on Nerang Street. Bike, scoot or walk to the CBD. There is parking available at the nearby Mal Burke carpark on the corner of Hicks and Davenport streets.
Year of the Dragon facts
The year of the Dragon starts on 10 February 2024 and ends on 28 January 2025. 2024 is the year of the Wood Dragon.
The Dragon is the fifth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese Zodiac. Dragon’s include those born in 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012 and 2024. The next year of the Dragon is 2036.
Dragon’s are self-assured leaders, charismatic, energetic, and goal orientated. They can also be short-tempered and have difficulty taking criticism.
The elemental sign for 2024 is Wood Dragon – 2012 was year of the Water Dragon and 2036 will be year of the Fire Dragon. Other elements are Earth and Metal
