Robbery and car theft at Mackay

Police are investigating after a man was assaulted and his car was stolen in Mackay overnight.

Around 12.45am, a 55-year-old man was asleep in his Holden Cruze on MacAlister Street, when he was awoken by a man approaching his car.

The man demanded the 55-year-old man get out of the car and struggle ensued before the victim was assaulted and dragged from the vehicle.

The victim grabbed hold of his car as it was being driven away and then fell to the road before his leg was run over by the car.

A passer-by took the victim to Mackay Police Station before he was transported to Mackay Base Hospital with multiple injuries including a suspected broken leg.

The Holden Cruze was located around 6.15am destroyed by fire at Te Kowai.
