Robbery suspect arrested at Port Augusta, South Australia

A man has been arrested after he allegedly robbed a take-away counter at a Port Augusta service station overnight.

Just after 1am on Sunday 2 February, police patrols were called to a service station on the Augusta Highway, after a man allegedly walked behind the counter of a food outlet, assaulted a staff member with a ladle and attempted to steal cash from the tills.

The suspect fled on foot with just chewing gum after he couldn’t open the tills.

Fortunately the staff member wasn’t seriously injured.

Extra police patrols searched the area for the suspect who was described as a man of Aboriginal appearance, about 175cms, medium build, wearing a hooded top and red bandana covering his face.

Just before 6am, police patrols investigating the robbery after viewing the service station CCTV, located the suspect.

A 21-year-old man from the State’s Far North has been arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, he has been refused police bail and will appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court on Monday.
