Gold Coast residents visiting Robina Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) will be seen quicker, thanks to a $16.5 million investment in the hospital.
The Robina Hospital expansion adds an extra 20 emergency treatment spaces, bringing the total number of ED treatment spaces to 66.
Designed to work in tandem with the existing ED, these extra spaces are set to care for about 120 patients daily, reducing emergency care wait times and improving patient flow.
The new treatment spaces will focus on less acute injuries and illnesses and ensure the hospital can continue to care for the fast-growing region.
Works also include additional staff workstations and a new location for the transfer unit.
To ensure the high level care provided in the ED can continue following the expansion, recruitment of around 126 full-time employees is almost complete, this includes doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals.
Operating around the clock and providing free, walk-in care, the Gold Coast Health expansion will make sure Gold Coast residents have access to high quality healthcare close to home.
This project is part of the Miles Labor Government’s record-breaking $14 billion Health Big Build, under Queensland’s Big Build initiative.
The plan to deliver new and expanded hospitals helps ensure continued access to world-class healthcare for rapidly growing regions – boosting capacity through expansions to 11 existing hospitals, building three new hospitals, seven satellite and building a dedicated cancer centre.
Queensland’s Health Big Build is delivering over 3,300 additional hospital beds, including 199 in 2023 and 239 in 2024.
